Canadian Mill Towns Pay For U.S. Housing Collapse 1

This story intrigued me as a retired carpenter. I called two local lumber stores and the price for 8ft. 2x4's hasn't gone down. They were still over $2.00 a piece. 5 years ago you could buy them all day for 98 cents a piece. So the corporate monopolies still make their money while the individuals suffer. "Free market" economies my ass. Rich get richer economies is more like it. If it were a free market economy, the price would drop along with demand. Instead, the price stays the same, just the workers no longer have jobs so that inventories don't get too big. This is all due to the stock market. That way, all the fat cats can maintain their outrageous profits and the stockholders can get their untaxed dividends, and the worker is told to go to hell. Just like a guy who wants to take advantage of a market slump and buy cheap materials to build a house or an addition. The stock market and the "speculators" fix prices so there is no longer free market competition. We do not live in a Democracy, we do not have a free market economy. We have a corporate Fascist society so that the rich stay rich and the workers stay poor. All we are offered for political choices are more of the same. You get a man like Edwards who wants to do away with lobbyists and the hold that corporations have on Amerika. What happens? The corporate owned media shuts out coverage of his candidacy and choose our candidates (more of the same) for us. We have to have a revolution to change the status quo. The French government know what can happen so their citizens are treated a whole lot different. Free healthcare, free education, 5 weks PAID vacation, the list goes on. Instead we have CEO's that are paid like Rock Stars to screw us hard. We have to band together and change it. No one will do it for us. Hell, the corporate owned media will assure that.
