Fantasy Island

Do you think that the 'war' in Iraq is about oil? The real answer is...sort of.
What if I told you it is more a war against Europe? You would probably think I'm nuts, right? I'm not nuts and I said that just to point out just how little you understand what is going on in the world. You live in a fantasy world and your about to get a really really rude awaking. I'm not calling you stupid, though you are in a way ignorant by choice.
As I read many of the good sites that are trying to educate people and point out the moral morass that inhabits your government, I become even more depressed. You correctly understand what a crock of shit Fox 'News' feeds you, yet you quote and read others like The New York Times, CBS, MSNBC, AP etc. like they are somehow better. They are not. In many ways they are worse. Theirs is sin by omission, which you seem to eat up like it's truth, when in fact it's more dangerous than Fox. At least Fox is obvious in their intent.
I am trying not to make this sound like a lecture, but maybe it is, and forgive me if I say you and not us, for I am a U.S. citizen that moved out of the country going on 15 years ago as the only way to stop paying for the terror you inflict on the world. I was fortunate enough to already have a home in a real Democracy and the financial means to do it, but I will always be a Gringo regardless of how accepted I am in my country of choice.
You will not get the truth from any media available to you unless you dig deep into the internet and read what the rest of the world reports. The U.S. is in much much deeper shit than you seem to understand, and I have yet to hear a word of it from any media outlet from the States.
The biggest lie (perhaps error is a better word) I read in liberal sites and blogs is that the U.S. is attempting to establish an Empire in the world. The truth is that it has been an empire since 1947.
Empires differ from simple Nation States by taxing other countries, where Nation States tax only their own citizens. In earlier Empires the tax was simple and direct, money, goods, slaves and what have you.
The American Empire has a more insidious way, and that way is the inflation tax. Other countries' dollars are continually worth less than they paid for them, hence the 'tax' . Inflation is a tax on you also, but by forcing the dollar on the world as the fiat currency, you get to tax the entire world, countries both rich and poor.
It's a complicated scheme and is about to end, and if starting World War III is the only way to protect it, the U.S. will start it, regardless if the country is run by Republicans or Democrats. I rant often about the futility of thinking that the Democrats are any better than the Republicans and am constantly ridiculed for it. But let me assure you that when you attack Iran, and you will attack Iran, Democrats will go along with it.
Why do I say such a thing? Because of the Euro, that's why. In the year 2000 Saddam stopped accepting dollars for Iraqi oil and switched to the Euro. At the time opinion was along the lines of "that crazy Saddam" and other assorted bullshit. In reality it was a smart move, he made a 20% bonus because of the strength of the Euro over the dollar. He stopped paying the inflation tax.
Controlling Iraqi oil wasn't the agenda at all. After all, Bush could just print up more counterfeit dollars and buy it all, so why the invasion? Take note that one of the first things the U.S. did was to cancel all the Euro contracts and demand dollars for Iraqi oil. Your way of life depends on it. But Saddam was small potatoes, conquering Iraq was nothing more than the schoolyard bully taking the lunch pail of the smallest kid in the yard. Bush' 'Mission Accomplished' show was correct, the real mission had been accomplished.
Now Iran (the last I heard it was to be up and running sometimes in late March) started what is called the Iran Bourse, which will accept the Euro, and maybe other currencies to market any countries oil. European countries are quietly encouraging these moves, as well as China, Russia and most of the rest of the world, all tired of subsidizing your inflated 'way of life'. All the countries in the world must keep huge reserves of dollars to purchase their oil and other goods and services, as the dollar is presently the standard currency for world trade. And the rest of the world is sick of it, along with the United States insane propensity for violence. And ALL of your sources of 'news' keep these facts buried and unmentioned. And the countries that have all the oil are the ones that hate us most of all (and with good reason).
What will the switch to the Euro as the standard trading currency have on the U.S.? Meltdown. If this happens quickly the effects will be worse than your worst nightmare. If it happens more gradually, as is probably more likely because most of the rest of the world doesn't want to be holding mega-billions of suddenly worthless dollars. But regardless of which course plays out the end result for the United States will be the same. But you won't need to worry about gas prices because you won't be able to afford a car. You are facing a dramatically lowered standard of living.
Here's the best simple analogy I've read that might make this simpler to understand. You buy a Japanese television and pay for it with a check. But instead of cashing the check Japan uses it to pay for oil, and the seller of the oil uses it to buy whatever. Essentially the check never gets cashed, so you get your TV for free.
Forgive me for running on a bit here, but things are worse than you realize. I had some inkling something was happening a couple of years ago, when the local banks started accepting Euros, and in the last year they have started allowing you to have your accounts in Euros, where previously only dollar and colones (the local currency) were available. This year, rather suddenly, stores, restaurants and hotels started sprouting signs "We accept Euros". So quickly did this happen that now you can go into the smallest store in the smallest village and use Euros the same way you have always been able to use dollars.
This is ominous for the dollar. I've traveled in more than 40 countries in my life and have never really needed to change into the local currency, because everybody accepts dollars. Not so with any other currency. You could go to any business with the always more valuable Swiss Franc, but you couldn't spend it. You'd need to go to an international bank and change it to either the local currency or dollars.
Now many of the 50,000 or so North Americans that live down here with me are changing their dollar accounts to Euro accounts, because the news we receive is full of stories about what is happening. Yet your 'news' tells you about your 'valiant troops' bringing 'Democracy' to a people that didn't even know they wanted it (at the point of a gun), and a 'coup' against the popular elected president of Venezuela, suggesting that he's some kind of a ruthless tyrant and nut, when they know damn well it's not true and that it was a C.I.A. operation all the way.
And what have your 'news' outlets have told you of the many incredibly horrible atrocities committed by your valiant troops? Aside from the prison tortures that slipped past the censors, I haven't seen anything about them in the U.S. press. But the rest of the world does know about them. Heard about the 11 women and children tied up and dispatched with a single bullet to the head, then have their house blown up to cover the crime? Or the target practice on women and children trying to swim across the river while waving white flags trying to escape in Fallula (sp?)?
I have more to say on these issues, but I'm getting sick thinking about this, so I'll hold my tongue for another rant, but you should Google petro dollar for a better and more concise explanation of what's in your future, because you're not going to hear it from either your 'leaders' or from your pathetic excuse for a press.
