Do as I say, not as I do
By Ed
Wednesday, June 28, 2006

Ed here,

Congress is angry at President Bush. Imagine that. The Bush administration feels that they are above the law. They reserve the right to ignore laws that the President signs.

Let me get this straight, if a law is passed in the Senate, House, and the President signs it, shouldn't that law be for all Americans? Not according to George and Dick. As long as they ignore it because of national security or constitutional grounds, everyone must abide by the law but them. Why would he sign it in the first place if he wants to use constitutional grounds to break it?

Are you Republicans so consumed with power that you will allow our Constitution to be shit on by these Un-American ass-holes? They are acting more like dictators than Republicans. Just because they have an R in front of their names doesn't mean they are looking out for America.
This country was founded on certain principals, and you mushrooms are allowing the commander-in-thief and his cronies to make a mockery of the Constitution.

Or does it go deeper than that? The voices in my head think it does, and so do I. As I told you before, the Republicans aren't about to cut their own throats. Since Bush's approval rating is in the gutter, what better way to energize the Republican base than to turn on Bush? Most of my friends that are Republican are sick and tired of Bush. When a Republican in Congress or the Senate disagrees publicly with Bush they feel that it can only help to be re-elected. They disagree publicly, but privately they kiss his ass. This is just another example of child psychology at work. Just like the Dubai deal, and illegal immigration, Republicans being mad at Bush is just another smoke-screen aimed at the Nov. elections.

Last week my local Republican rag ran a story saying that the immigration bill would not be passed this year. I told you when the immigration subject first came up that nothing would be done. To make matters worse, they managed to make it look like the Democrats are the reason why. Bush is playing 3 card Monte with the Democrats and they lose every time but keep coming back for more. When are the morons in charge of the Democratic Party going start playing the game to win? It's like the NY Yankees (Republicans) playing the Toledo Mud-Hens (Democrats). The Hens don't stand a chance unless they put real players on the field. The people calling the shots for the Republicans are major leaguers, and the people calling the shots for the Democrats are lucky to be playing A-ball. Clinton was a major leaguer. Hillary on the other hand could be AA on her best day. It gets harder for me everyday to say something good about the Democrats because they seem to let every opportunity slip through their fingers. So, until the Democrats learn how to play dirty pool like the Republicans, we're fucked.

Opinions are like ass-holes, I just showed you mine.

Politicians
By Ed
Wednesday, June 21, 2006

Ed here,

I like to think that America has the best system of government in the world. It seems as though I have to question myself about it daily. How could we have the best system when the system is run by politicians? This country is going to hell-in-a-handbag because of these same politicians. Republicans and Democrats alike choose financial gain over America daily. What's worse is the fact that we as citizens allow these same politicians to control our lives.

Sen. Ben Nelson (D. Nebraska) while running in the Democratic primary for Senator ran ads proclaiming that he was proud to stand with President Bush on the war on terror. During the Republican primary though, the Republicans running wouldn't mention President Bush. I realize that Nebraska is a Republican state, but why would Nelson be proud to stand with Bush on anything? It sounded to me like the Republicans running in the Republican primary wanted no part of Bush.

Pete Ricketts is the Republican that won the nomination to run against Sen. Nelson. Ricketts is now running ads saying that we need conservative change in Washington. His ad says that the senate is being run by liberals. According to Ricketts ad, the liberals that control the senate are senators Kennedy and Clinton.

I don't consider myself to be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I was under the impression that the Republicans were in charge of the executive branch, the senate, and the congress. Do the Republicans consider themselves to be conservatives? If they do, what is Ricketts trying to say? Sounds to me like he's saying that we need to get rid of the Republicans in Washington. Ricketts is a lot smarter than I originally thought he was. Are the people of Nebraska stupid enough to listen to either of these 2 men? Sorry, I guess that was a stupid question.

I hope I'm not pissin too many people off. That was a lie, I prefer to piss off anyone I can. Until we get some honest people running the show, we are fucked. I've come to the point where I don't trust any of them. Should I listen to Nelson in his wig, or Ricketts saying we need conservative change? As far as I'm concerned, the people of Nebraska have 2 idiots running for Senator. If I lived in Nebraska, I wouldn't be able to vote for either of these 2 morons.

Good News & Bad News
By Ed
Wednesday, June 14, 2006

Ed here,

I'm going to give you the bad news first.
Gov. Tom Vilsack (D. IA.) has decided to pick big business over the people of his state. I would assume he did this because he has been told he has a chance to be the Democratic nominee for president in 2008.

In a pig's ass he does. It seems that a corporation in Pella, Iowa has decided that they need to obtain land for a private airport for the private jets they like to cruise around on. It also seems that the man that owns the property they want doesn't want to sell. The city of Pella apparently wants to take the land under Eminent Domain. The word on the street is that the city is all for it, but the county says no.

Here's where it seems to get interesting. The Republicans in the state along with most of the Democrats want to limit local government's eminent domain powers. Local government is the most corrupt form of government in this country. Vilsack (I prefer to call him ball-sack) has decided to veto a bill requiring not only city, but county approval also for taking a man's land under eminent domain. The way I see it, if a man spends his life nurturing his land, he should have the right to sell or not.

I wonder how much money this company is going to put down for his presidential bid. The Sioux City Journal (our local Republican rag) saw fit not to name the company that wants the land, but just guessing, I would guess Pella Windows. I would never accuse them of anything, but that's the only company I can think of in Pella Iowa. I think that it's a good bet that ball-sack is getting a good chunk of money from whatever company is in Pella that wants the private airport. As I told you before, if I think a Democrat is on the take, I won't vote for him. I think ball-sack is on the take, and if he gets the nomination, I won't vote. I consider myself a good Democrat, but I won't vote for a person just because they have a D. in front of their name. I can't stand a person that will do anything to win.

Now the good news.
Some scientists in Oregon have figured out that beer & pizza can help you fight off prostate cancer. All you have to do is drink 17 beers a day and eat 4 large pizza's a day. I'm not sure I can eat that much pizza, but I think with practice I can get the beer down.

Remember, opinions are like ass-holes, I just showed you mine.

Funeral for a Friend
By Ed
Wednesday, June 7, 2006

Ed here,

As I told you before, I get up on Sunday morning and pick a topic. Here's the exception to the rule. One of my beautiful daughter-in-laws tragically lost her mother this past week. My wife and I had the honor and privilege to attend the funeral ceremony. We traveled to the Rosebud Reservation for the ceremony in hopes of supporting Kimimila (Beautiful Butterfly) and to help in any way we possibly could. What I didn't expect was that I would come home thinking of how ignorant I've been for the past 48 years. Funny how one weekend can change a man's way of thinking as this past weekend has changed mine. As I drove the 250 miles home, I found myself feeling ashamed, mad, and thinking that something needs to be done.

Over the weekend I met many wonderful people. People that welcomed my wife and I with open arms. Not one person had an unkind thing to say. I can honestly say that 100% of the people we met treated us like we were one of them. When I say 100%, I mean 100%. The few people we knew introduced us to several people that I hope I can now call friends. The people we weren't introduced too introduced themselves to us. It was without a doubt, a very special time in my life. Yes, it was a sad occasion, but what I saw in this group of people was something special. I asked myself several times. "How can this group of people be so friendly to an outsider, be so happy, be so unified?" I'm not sure I'll ever be able to answer these questions, but knowing them makes me think that somehow I can be a better man. I found myself wanting to know more about The Lakota Sioux Tribe. I hope that Kimimila's father didn't get tired of me asking questions constantly. If he did, he didn't show it. I'd like to thank him for that.

How can this group of people be so happy? The unemployment rate is 82%. Of the 18% that are employed, 80% of them are living well below the poverty guidelines. Yet they all seem to maintain their smiles. You now know why I'm having a problem answering these questions I've asked myself. The federal government has robbed these proud people of everything they possibly could. Democrats and Republicans alike. What they haven't been able to take, and never will, is their dignity. The rest of America throws a fit if the unemployment rate gets above 7%. As I said, I felt shame. WE SHOULD ALL BE ASHAMED. Nearly every treaty we've signed with Native Americans we've broken, not them. Yet, as I said, I saw everyone with smiles on their faces. Since they were here for thousands of years before we showed up, how can we feel good about ourselves knowing this is happening?

How can they be so friendly to an outsider? There are 562 different tribes of Native Americans in the U.S. today. Basically what has happened is they've been herded up like animals onto reservations all across the U.S. They've been given the bare minimum and told to like it or be exterminated. Yet when my wife and I entered the community center we were treated like family. I can't answer the question. If it were me, I don't think I could be so friendly to outsiders.

How can they be so unified? I may have this one figured out. The Lakota Sioux are a proud people. As are 561 other tribes of Native Americans. They have history and traditions to hand down from generation to generation. When you shake hands with a Lakota Sioux, he will look you in the eyes. I respect a man that will look me in the eyes. I have a newfound respect for all Native Americans. After all, they were Americans before we were.

I had no idea of what to expect when we arrived at the ceremony. The Spiritual Advisor that spoke is the Spiritual Advisor that was chosen by all 562 tribes to represent them to the federal government. His words had me mesmerized. The Reverend that conducted the ceremony is the oldest reverend of all 562 tribes. Both men, Lakota Sioux. I felt as though I was in the presence of royalty. It was an honor to hear them speak.

As I said, I was ashamed and mad. Although I'm a hard-line Democrat, we are as much to blame as the Republicans are on this issue. So all partisan politics aside. We are blowing billions of dollars in Iraq. All in the name of liberating Iraq? Or has it been spent for record profits for Exxon, Mobil, and Halliburton? I say that the Democrats are to blame as much as Republicans because when the Democrats were the majority, the same thing was happening to the Native American as what is happening now. We can't push it off on W. Much as I'd like too.

If we took just 25% of the money that has been wasted in Iraq and put it towards helping the Native Americans, this country would be a much better place for all. Since the people of Iraq hate us and our way of life, and they will never conform to the standards that W has set forth. Since the oil companies are recording record profits, they don't need the money. This money could be used for education, upgrading infrastructure on the reservations, and helping the Native Americans to be more self-sufficient. A far better investment than Iraq and oil companies in my book. This would not be a handout; this would be an investment in our future as a country. A very profitable investment as it would make our country stronger in the long run. I wish everyone could spend a little time on a reservation as my wife and I have. If everyone did, I can assure you that America would be a much better place to live for all. I witnessed true American Spirit last weekend. I would like to thank the Lakota Sioux Tribe for allowing my wife and me to spend a little time with them. I would mostly like to thank Kimi, as we call her, for allowing us to be a small part of a very important time in her life. We love her very much.
