I'm still pissed
by Clyde
7:51 AM

Normally when the Democrats pull some ignorant bullshit, I get mad and then in a couple of days I mellow out and go on with the business at hand. This week however is something new for me, because I cannot get over how the Democrats capitulated to Herr Bush! I mean, here we have the Republicans running from the Bush legacy like it was a marriage vow, but the Democrats are more worried that the Republicans will paint them as not supporting the troops. Bite me! That is a bullshit excuse and they know it.

No matter what they say, the Democrats now own this war, lock stock and barrel. Instead of standing up to Bush and fulfilling the mandate given to them in November, the Democrats got on their collective knees and Lewinsky'd Bush like Marilyn Chambers at a Viagra convention. The "we don't have enough votes to override the veto" and "we must give the troops the tools they need" are excuses that rank almost as high as the Alzheimer's outbreak at the Department of Justice.

The Democrats had a chance to paint the Republicans into a corner and they blew it. Now I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but it doesn't take a fucking rocket scientist to play the game of politics. The debate over an issue is not won with truth and fact based arguments anymore, it's won by who can cut their opposition's throat first. And the Democrats missed an opportunity to cut the Republican talking points apart like a tabby during a Bill Frist mid-term.

The Democrats should be saying that if funding the troops is so important to Bush, why doesn't he take some of the money away from his buddies in the Defense industry. Here he is, spending BILLIONS on Star Wars systems for some future conflict but that money is so sacrosanct that it cannot be dipped into too fight the current conflict? That's a lot like Jerry Cooney taking it easy during the Ali fight so he could save his strength to fight Frazier?

The Democrats should be saying that if funding the troops is so important, then why haven't they been funded for the last four fucking years? Why was it so important to give in to Bush's demands? So the troops can continue to not have enough body armor or up-armored HUMVEES? It's a fucking disgrace!

I have no desire to leave the Democratic Party but that doesn't mean that I will keep silent when they do shit wrong either. If anything, I will be more outspoken when they fuck up.

Because these are hard economic times I thought I would end this column with a job posting I saw.

Help Wanted, young man for manual labor
Mostly days but some evening shifts
Short order experience helpful but not required
Benefits package

The Politics of Politics
by Clyde
8:47 AM

The crap going on in Washington has been pissing me off for quite a few years but it is only now that I put as much blame on the Democrats as I do on Republicans. In the past, I could always blame the Republicans for congress not bending to the will of the people. Everything from Terri Schiavo to the Lewinsky scandal had been perpetrated by the right wing, but now, it's the Democrats playing politics with the politics.

For some reason the Democrats, mainly Reid, Emmanuel and the other DLC'ers think, they can pull the wool over our eyes when it comes to the funding of the Iraq occupation. This bill for funding has no benchmarks or timeline and is nothing more than the blank check Bush has wanted all along. This is not a step forward it is the same old song and dance we have had to live with since GWB assumed control.

Several Democrats have been prancing around the alphabet networks claiming that they would be more likely able to garner support to end the occupation if we wait until September because that is when Petraeus will give his progress report. There is only one small problem with that kind of thinking. Show me a general willing to admit defeat when he is in charge of the fighting. It would never happen. Everyone knows that Petraeus is going to come to Washington and claim that while there's still a lot of sectarian violence, progress is being made and that we should not give up now. And what do we get then? The Republicans spouting the same old crap that we have heard since "Mission Accomplished" and another 300 or so Americans are going to die. And all because the Democrats were too busy jockeying for a better political position with their "colleagues" on the other side of the aisle.

This claim that September is going to be the magic month was the same claim we heard last year, only back then it was November. Well November is long gone and although we have gotten some dividend from our investment in a Democratic control of congress, the bill is a long way from being fully paid. We gave congress a mandate to get our men and women out of Iraq, yet the DLC'ers are too afraid that they might piss off a few Republicans so therefore we need to wait until it is more politically "convenient" for them to make a stand.

The time to make a stand is now, not some mythical time in the future. There are lives at stake. How could any Democrat stand in front the family of one of the fallen and tell them that they just couldn't save their loved one because they were afraid that they didn't have the votes and wanted to wait until they did before they acted. How could any Democrat hold his or her head up in front of some troop who lost his legs from an IED because they were too busy worrying that if they voted the wrong way, they might not get elected to another term. The fact that the Democrats are more concerned with appearing to support the troops than actually supporting the troops and bringing them home is disgusting.

The Democrats are playing a very dangerous game with their base by playing up to the fence-sitters. It is time to shit or get off the fucking pot and start holding Bush and his ilk accountable. While I laud the fact that the Democrats are beginning to have oversight, for me those crimes are secondary to the occupation. We can always deal with that crap later, right now, we need the Democrats in congress to concentrate on standing up to the Republicans and cut off the funding of this illegal occupation.

The Democrats say they do not want it to look like they are denying the troops of the tools and protection they need while serving in harm's way. They need not worry because Bush has been doing that from the start and the military realizes that. More and more the military is shifting its support from the Republicans to the Democrats and if they were smart, the Democrats would realize that military families want their people home more than they want to be a Republican.

The time to end the occupation is now, not three months from now!

This week in the news 5-17-07

Much like Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway, Alberto Gonzales's memory is still missing. This time our intrepid Attorney General conveniently forgot to comply with a subpoena issued by the Senate Judiciary Committee concerning any emails sent by White House political advisor KKKarl Rove concerning the firing of 8 U.S. Attorneys. Besides failing to turn over the documents in question, the Department of Justice failed to give a reason as to why the noncompliance. When asked, Gonzales said he took full responsibility and that while he could remember there being a meeting, he could not remember what was said, who said it, and why it was said in the first place.

Fisting each other like an El Segundo porn movie, the Republican candidates for president gathered in South Carolina for a debate sponsored by Fox News. Moderator Brit "if I only had a chin" Hume started the debate by offering condolences to the family of Rev. Jerry Falwell on behalf of all the candidates. One must assume that this was done to prevent a chanting of Falwell's name as if he was Ronald Reagan or something.

It became obvious this week that the FBI has no "don't ask don't tell" policy when it was revealed that Ann-Dee Coulter's ex-boyfriend Supervisory Special Agent Jim Fitzgerald interceded on the trans-testicles behalf over possible voter fraud charges in Palm Beach Florida.

World Bank president Paul Wolfowitz may be looking for a job soon over the scandal involving a huge pay raise for his girlfriend Shaha Riza. Rumors began when PresiDunce Bush lavished praise upon Wolfowitz for doing a heckuva job.

This week it was announced that the White House had been able to find someone to fill the slot of War Czar. After being rebuked by several four-star generals, Bush was pleased to announce that three-star Lt. General Douglas Lute had accepted the position. The War Czar will be responsible for overseeing the war in Afghanistan and the occupation of Iraq, duties that used to be handled by the Secretary of Defense. While this may be welcomed by some, mainly those who will no longer have to take the blame, many believe it is too little too late, a common theme in the Bush administration.

Jerry Falwell is dead! Demised. Without life. The big sleep. Pushing up daisies. Assuming room temperature. Taking a dirt nap. A worm feast. And last but not least, he gave up his breathing habit. Yes folks, Falwell is gone and I could not be happier if I were Bill O'Reilly sniffing a pussy fart that reeked of hummus. Now I know that sounds cold and callous but I really don't give a shit. While I never wish anyone dead, I do not agree that just because someone has crossed the bar we should only remember the good things that person has done. Falwell was nothing more than a huckster out for his own self-aggrandizement at the expense of those less fortunate. He pushed his idea of morality on others and did not give a damn about their views. He instilled himself into the body politic to promote bigotry and hate against those who did not conform to his beliefs or vision of Christianity. The man was a piece of shit and in my opinion; the world is now a much better place.

Those were the days
by Clyde
7:46 AM

I am now officially an old man, or at least one that is becoming of advanced age. You know how I can tell? I find myself romanticizing about the "good ole days" just like my Dad used to.

Oh, what I wouldn't give for the "good ole days" of gasoline at mere $2.00 a gallon. You know, the days when I only had to save money for a month in order to make a visit back home in Iowa. Now though, the three hundred miles it takes means I either take out a second mortgage or start hooking.

Better yet, remember when gas at $1.75 was a measure of a failed presidency?

Remember when an emergency meant something unexpected happened not funding an occupation that has lasted four fucking years?

How about the time when people didn't really give a shit about illegal immigration because they were more concerned with getting their Egg McMuffin than making it?

What about when we were more concerned with a President who wanted the definition of "is" than we were with a presiDunce who couldn't speak English through an interpreter?

Ah, to live the glory years of yesteryear when it was a crime to lie to a grand jury, even if it was about a consensual sex act.

To bad, we cannot go back to the days when the Attorney General was lambasted for putting political considerations aside and deporting a minor child back to his father.

What I wouldn't give to go back to the time where our country actually was helping reduce the number of nuclear weapons in the world.

What about the days when we were putting more cops and fewer guns on the streets.

I guess what I am trying to say is that it is time to shove all of the bullshit we heard through the 90's into the face of the Republicans. We, as a Party, can no longer afford to be nice and bi-partisan. You see, when my Dad was a young man he did some boxing and he always told me that when you have your opponent on the ropes, you press the attack. Well congress had better start attacking otherwise they will lose in 08.

While I was impressed with Reid and Pelosi at first, I have to admit that my support for them is beginning to wane. This country elected them to make real change and except for the first 100 hours, I have seen damn little come from them.

I have been a Democrat my entire voting life and I do not wish to change. I still feel the Democrats offer the best hope for change at this time. Who knows about the future? If the Democrats cannot get it done maybe, it is time I reconsider my Party affiliation.

7:40 AM

There are new developments in the story of missing Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway. It seems that the Dutch authorities have been digging in the back yard of one of men believed to be involved with her disappearance. You know what that means don't you. Some Einstein at one of the alphabet networks is going to get a bright idea and we will forced to listen to Rita Cosby bark like a harp seal for another month.

After watching Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice on all of the talking head shows last Sunday, am I the only one who would love to see someone slap her in the forehead just to see if a Pez shot out of her mouth?

It has been said that in Washington, the Friday night document dump is a lot like wiping your ass with a salad grater, because it is usually just "chocked" full juicy bits. Well this week's dump included an internal Justice Department order by Attorney General Alberto Gonzales giving hiring/firing authority to two aides, Kyle Sampson and Monica Goodling. I guess we now know why Gonzales has a poor memory of the events.

The DC Madam case has claimed another victim, one Randall Tobias. Mr. Tobias resigned his position as director of Foreign Assistance and administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development after it was revealed that he used the "escort service" owned by Deborah Jeane Palfrey. ABC News identified Tobias by phone records provided by Ms. Palfrey and when asked, Mr. Tobias admitted he used the services for "massages" but has since quit in favor of another service that uses women mainly from Central America. Members of the Minuteman Project were dispatched to Washington and Colorado Representative Tom Tancredo immediately began erecting a wall around Tobias's home.

White House Press Secretary Tony Snow returned to work this week after being treated for cancer. White House officials handed out yellow cancer bracelets to the press corps for Snow's first briefing but the reporters refused to wear them because it clashed with the yellow streaks down their backs.

Little Lord Pissypants broke out the crayolas this week so he could veto the legislation to further fund the occupation of Iraq. This makes about as much sense as telling a Dahmer victim that he'll never amount to shit. After all, if you really think about it, all Chimpy McFuckNuts had to do was issue one of his infamous signing statements and totally ignore the will of congress. It isn't as if it is a new tactic for the little dweeb. Not to mention that the "timeline" was non-binding and carried about as much weight as Ann-Dee Coulter's push up bra. And he accuses the Democrats of playing politics with the issue.

In a related story, when giving his speech justifying his total disregard for the will of the American people, Bush said that it was important to give the surge a chance. That it was vital that we give the Iraqi government a chance at securing the capitol. Well his plea would carry more weight if it weren't for the fact that the "burgeoning democracy's" parliament has decided to take a two month summer vacation. Yes folks, doesn't it make you feel good knowing that while your tax dollars are being blown away like a Shi'ite at a Sunni wedding, Maliki and his posse are going to Disneyland.

Finally:
Last Tuesday was our third anniversary here at dubyaD40 and I have to say that is has been an amazing ride. From what started out as a mere pastime has grown to become somewhat of an obsession. During this time, we have had our highs and lows, good moments and bad, made some friends and probably some enemies, but the one thing that has always been a constant is our desire to help make our country better and to provide a place where people can sound off on their own. So thanks for three great years and here's too times that are going to come. Peace!
