You Can Look But You Can't See

Like a beer fart inside a Volkswagen I smell the stench of Karl Rove all over the Newsweek scandal. It stands to reason that given the history of Rove-ian style politics I can only surmise that it was Rove who instigated the story of American soldiers desecrating the Koran in Guantanamo in an effort to quell a media uprising that was beginning to take shape.
For the last few weeks we have been seeing an increase in media coverage of the criminal activities committed by the Republicans and the revelations were beginning to hurt the neo-con agenda. So it stands to reason that what they needed was another issue to "Ratherize" so they could continue their anal assault on the middle class and working poor.
The fact that no one has denied the accusation of the abuse speaks volumes and only reinforces my belief that Rove is the one who leaked this to Newsweek albeit by a third party. Since this story broke I have not heard one word in the mainstream media about Tom Delay's ethics problems, the Social Security piratization, increased violence in Iraq or the burgeoning budget crisis. What I have heard is the Michael Jackson trial, the "nukular" option over the filibuster and every talking head blaming the violence in Afghanistan on Newsweek.
Being as most of the Afghan population is illiterate I find it strange that Newsweek would have such a large impact on their daily lives. Yet when we listen to Simple Scotty McClellan we are supposed to believe that everything that is going wrong in the world is the fault of a tabloid. The mere idea that the Bush administration is once again succeeding in manipulating the press makes one want to vomit and we as Americans should not stand for it. We must demand a return of the Fairness Doctrine and break up the media conglomerations that we currently have to endure.
It is a crying shame that even though we live in the greatest country on the planet we have to go to other countries to get an unbiased view of current events. How shameful is it that we rank 24th in the world for media independence and that we have to put up with Party politics in getting information that has a direct impact on our daily lives? Both sides of the political spectrum complain of media bias so if we continue to allow this "I can't see the forest for the trees" manipulation of the mainstream media we will lose our democracy to a bunch right wing Christo/Fascists forever.

Divide and Conquer

Could it be that we liberals have taken the wrong approach to the argument of religion in the public forum? Should we as Democrats embrace the religious right's assertion that we need to erect Christian/Judeo symbols in the public square instead of insisting that our government be wholly secularist? Are we missing the opportunity to finally put this debate to rest once and for all? It is my belief that we need to join up with the "people of faith" in this country and actively promote the idea that this country was indeed founded upon Christian/Judeo principles and that those principles should become part of the norm in all of our governmental functions and establishments. In other words, let's give them so much religion that they choke on it.
There is an old saying that when you give a person enough rope eventually he will end up hanging himself with it. So with that piece of wisdom in mind let us stand back from arguing that the Ten Commandments in a Courthouse violates the separation of Church and State. Instead let's give them what they want and ask them one simple question, which version of the Ten Commandments do you want Protestant, Catholic or Hebrew? Being that every religious sect believes that their religion is the one true religion and all others are false, the fighting that will erupt between the different denominations will be a "Celebrity Death Match" writer's wet dream.
We need to concede that life does begin at conception and therefore every zygote in every in-vitro laboratory needs to be immediately inserted into the womb of every female Pro-Lifer so that that child can reach its full potential. After all, if it is to be considered a child while stuck to the uterine wall should it not be considered a child when it is stuck into a vat of liquid nitrogen? You can rest assured that once these mothers-to-be are forced to look at having this unplanned pregnancy forced upon them by the men in Washington, you will see a whole new definition to the word "insurgency."
We need to embrace the "Protection of Marriage" amendment that George W. Bush advocated for during the 2004 election campaign, but instead of just banning gay marriage we need to really protect the sanctity of marriage. Support for this amendment would scatter faster than a fart in a windstorm if we were to advocate for the elimination of the ability to obtain a divorce for any reason. Newt Gingrich, Bob Barr and Rush Limbaugh would be sucking on a microphone so fast, in opposition, that they may actually come to believe in the symbolic nature of what they are doing.
The fact of the matter is that coherent arguments do not work on religious zealots. For the last thirty years we have been trying to make the argument that the separation of Church and State is to insure that the State does not impose its will upon the Church and vice versa, but these people are unwilling to listen. They are so enamored with the righteousness of their cause that unless we change tactics it would literally take an act of God to make them change their position. So I say grab your Bible's and forget laughing with the sinners and begin crying with the saints.

Freeper Madness

For a prime example of the old saying that "ignorance is bliss" all you have to do is visit the Free Republic website because these are the happiest sons-a-bitches to ever walk the planet. I do not know just when it happened but it would seem that Jethro and Ellie Mae finally got themselves one of them new fangled Pentium II "cumpooters" and decided they needed to make themselves known to the internet. The fantasy world in which these people live is truly amazing because of their innate ability to take both sides of an issue and base their position, at the time, only on which political party is in charge. These people (and I use that term loosely) are the embodiment of a contradiction in terms.
They believe in isolationism by closing the borders yet believe in imperialism as long as it is for profit or gain. They are the "culture of life" when it is a brain dead white woman but could care less about a black baby taken off life support just because his mother cannot pay the hospital bill. And they were very vocal in their opposition to being the world's police force when it came to the matter of ethnic cleansing in Bosnia, but believe that we were justified in invading Iraq because of rape rooms and torture chambers. They claim to be fiscally conservative but still support George Dubya's economic plan even after it has taken our nation to the highest level of deficit spending in history.
If you really want to lift the veil of "Compassionate Conservatism" and see the real face of the neo-con agenda, I suggest you visit their website. Even though these people wrap themselves in the flag and lay claim to being patriotic, they are in my opinion the greatest threat to national security our country has ever faced. They seek to rewrite the Constitution in order to suit their own sick and twisted version of democracy. Although our laws are based on the laws of man that pre-date the Grecian Empire, they want the judiciary to interpret the law according to the Ten Commandments. They believe in religious freedom as long as that religion conforms to the Christian/Judeo "roots" of their forefathers, all others need not apply.
Even on their own website they stifle the free speech that is afforded every American in the Bill of Rights. If one of their own has the temerity to voice an opinion that is contrary to the collective belief, they will turn on that individual like a pack of wild dogs and tear that person to shreds. That person will be subjected to personal attacks and expulsion from the site because dissent is not allowed in any form. These people are so full of hate that they make a Mississippi cross burning look like a love-in of racial tolerance.
If these people actually knew the teachings of Christ they would see that their claims of moral superiority are a fucking joke. Just like the Constitution they will pick a verse or phrase from the Bible that would seem to support the infantile assertion of morality and justice. When Sean fucking Hannity refers to these people as part of the lunatic fringe you can surmise that these people were more than likely the kind of kids who got their jollies by burning ants with a magnifying lens and got their first orgasm while torturing a small animal.
There is one redeeming tool on the website, they have a great keyword search engine and I urge you to use it. For example if you type in the word "Bosnia" you will see comments that favorably compare Slobodan Milosevic to Abraham Lincoln. The fact that Lincoln kept the nation together through a civil war and thereby freeing millions of Americans of African descent from enslavement to a murderous thug responsible for the rape and murder of thousands of innocent human beings is beyond the pale but this is the mind-set of the neo-conservative movement.
The people who post comments on the Free Republic website are nothing more than a national embarrassment and I truly detest their existence, but this is America and everyone has the right to speak their mind, no matter how small that may be.
