Our Duty?

You know, for the most part I am pretty laid back when it comes to what people think of me. As far as I am concerned, everyone has a right to their opinion and if it is in conflict with mine, so be it. But every once in a while something gets said or written that just pisses me off too no end.
We have comment sections on every story we post because not only do we want to help spread the news, but to give everyone who wishes to comment a chance at letting their views be known. We allow these comments to be made without restriction or censorship and even when we disagree with what has been written, the comment gets saved in our archives.
That being said, I cannot allow a comment made by "md" on yesterday's D.L. Hughley post go unchallenged.
It seems that "md" believes that we have an obligation as "progressive journalists" too inform people about their choices in the upcoming election. First of all let me be perfectly fucking clear, I am a welding inspector, not some kind of fucking progressive journalist. Dookie, Wally, and I are just plain old working stiffs who just happen to own a political website. We work it as a sideline, nothing more nothing less.
We are in no way obligated to inform people about shit! We write what we want, we post what we want, and if someone doesn't like it, call Oprah because she might give a fuck. I can live with being called names or attacked for something I have written but don't tell me what my fucking obligations are. The only obligations I have are to my family and friends, not too some political junkie who doesn't like the way we present the news.
Speaking for myself the reason I don't "inform" people about Cynthia McKinney or Ralph Nader's candidacies is that I do not support them. McKinney is crazier than a bed bug and Nader is on a quadrennial self absorption love fest. Neither one has a snowball's chance in hell of getting elected and to be quite frank; any vote for either is just a waste of fucking time.
The fact of the matter is that I am a cheerleader for the Democrats and damn proud of it. At least I have the balls to accept the fact that life is unfair and that sometimes you do not get everything that you want. Are there problems with the Democratic Party? Hell yes there are but you can't fix a problem by running away from it. And that is exactly what happens when you support a third party candidate. Besides, try and tell me the Democratic Party hasn't changed in the last few years.
Back in 2000, the DLC ran the party. They set a corporate agenda, wrote a corporatist platform, and capitulated to their corporate paymasters. But suddenly in 2008, they have little to no power left. A more progressive agenda is on the table, a more liberal platform will be written and it is the people not corporations that are funding Obama's campaign. There is still a lot of work to be done but it will never get done from outside of the party, it has to come from within.
P.S. Thanks Jenna
