The time is now!

I have to tell you that I could not be any happier if I were Bill O'Reilly with a new Loofa and hands free phone service. You see, I took some heat because back in November I wrote a column against impeaching the PresiDunce because I thought it would look too much like political payback for Clinton. I believed it then and still believe now, it would have backfired. Not because it isn't warranted, but because the American people were not on board with the concept of such an act by congress.

At that time, I surmised that the only way for any impeachment efforts to be successful was if congress were forced into it by the American people. Face it, the average Joe Six-pack and Jane Wine-boxes of this country are not that in tune with the goings on in Washington. Their too busy paying the mortgage, filling their tanks and feasting on fish sticks to keep up with the corruption going on in our nation's capitol. We, on the other hand, are political junkies. How do I know? You, are sitting there reading this diatribe and I've got my fat ass planted firmly in this chair pounding away on a keyboard instead of surfing the cornucopia of blondes, brunettes and redheads willing to post their nether regions for my viewing pleasure. But I digress.

However, a new day has dawned and the people are starting to get as pissed as David Vitter with a bad case of diaper rash now that the crimes of the Bush administration are being exposed. Back then, I surmised that once the Democrats were given oversight, the people would finally see the turd in the punch bowl and demand action. Case in point: Farmer John.

Farmer John is a friend of mine, a very good friend and his "political maturation" is the perfect example of what I write. When our friendship began, trying to talk politics with Farmer John had about as much of a chance at happening as Paris Hilton has in getting a PHD in quantum physics. It just wasn't going to happen. But along came Shrub and slowly his attitude towards the world of politics began to change. At first, the change was subtle. It began with an offhand reference to some Bush blunder or comment about how badly Bush was managing the occupation. But as time went along, the more he was able to see the corruption of Bush and his merry band of fascists have perpetrated against the country, the more his anger grew. Now he is downright indignant about it and he is demanding congress to act.

That is exactly what congress needs in order to bring about the articles of impeachment. Now when the impeachment begins, and believe me when I say that it will, the Democrats have the political cover needed. The fact of the matter is that the possibility of any impeachment being successful is about as likely to happen as Ann-Dee Coulter getting pregnant with a snowflake baby. The Republicans in the Senate will not allow it, plain and simple. But that does not mean the Democrats can't use it for political cannon fodder for the 2008 elections.

Pelosi and Reid are smart and I for one believe they have played this beautifully. This session of congress is being seen by many as a failure, not me. I believe that the Speaker and Majority Leader had this all planned in advance. I think, and you can say that I'm looking through rose colored glasses, that impeachment was never truly off the table. By showing the American people the real obstructionists, they set the stage for hanging Bush around the neck of every Republican running for re-election.

From their opposition to ending the occupation to supporting the Scooter Libby commutation, the Republicans have now been forced into a corner. They now have to decide whether to pin their political careers on the coattails of failed presidency or climb about their peanut shaped canoe and paddle away from the buoyant fecal matter in the Hi-C. Next month is crucial for them to have any chance at winning in 2008 and Nancy Pelosi can scuttle their chances just by saying that impeachment is right where its been all along, on the table.

On the last day of this session, Pelosi needs to come out and articulate to the American people that the Republicans hold enough seats to thwart any efforts by the Democrats to pass meaningful legislation and hold the criminals in the White House accountable. That the Republicans are more loyal to Party and a failed presidency than to the country.

In other words that:
THE TIME FOR IMPEACHMENT IS NOW!
