Smoke and mirrors

Once again, the right is wrong. This time it has to do with the Ann Coulter comments about John Edwards. During an interview on Good Morning America, Coulter supposedly tried to slam Bill Maher by saying that she "wished John Edwards were assassinated in a terrorist plot." Obviously, a reference to Maher's comments about Vice President's trip to Afghanistan where a suicide bomber blew himself up a mile from Cheney, right? Sarcasm aside, this makes no sense except in the eyes of the transtesticular anorexic drag queen and his minions.
The fact of the matter is that the whole premise of the quote is wrong. Bill Maher never said he wished Cheney had been blown up.
During a panel discussion with Joe Scarborough, Barney Frank and John Ridley the subject of Arianna Huffington's removal of postings that wished the bomber would have succeeded from her blog. Maher was simply trying to talk about how this was same as censorship.
He was not saying he agreed with the postings, only that people have the right to speak their minds. What he did say is "I have zero doubt that if Dick Cheney was not in power, people would not be dying needlessly tomorrow." Rational people would take that to mean that if Cheney were not Vice President, chances are that we would not find our military stuck in the quagmire called Iraq. But, the right wing is never rational and only hears what it wants to hear.
This is just another example of the right wing persecution complex that plagues the neo-conservatives and their ilk. To them, if you are not in total agreement with their views, you wish them harm. There is no middle ground and debate is a waste of time.
The fact of the matter is that the Republican Party cannot win in the war of ideas so therefore it has to divide the American people. It has to play on their fears and prejudices in order to be in power and that is exactly what Coulter is used for.
To the Republican Party, Coulter is the pit-bull with an infected testicle and is only to be let off its leash when bad news reaches a crescendo and those in power need to deflect the focus off their misdeeds. About every three months or so, Coulter is paraded around the alphabet networks because they know he will say something ignorant and the "Librul" media will run with it for at least a week.
So instead of getting mad and trying to write letters or emails complaining about what Coulter had to say, let it be like water on a duck's back and let it slide right off. Because folks, it's nothing more than smoke and mirrors, smoke and mirrors.
