McConnell reaches out to Lieberman
Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has reached out to Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.) about the prospect of joining the Republican Conference, but Lieberman is still bargaining with Democratic leaders to keep his chairmanship, according to Senate aides in both parties.
"Sen. Lieberman's preference is to stay in the caucus, but he's going to keep all his options open," a Lieberman aide said. "McConnell has reached out to him, and at this stage, his position is he wants to remain in the caucus but losing the chairmanship is unacceptable."
A Republican Senate aide said Friday morning that there was little McConnell could offer in terms of high-ranking committee slots, which is why Lieberman is resisting overtures from the Republican side.
Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Lieberman met Thursday, yet Reid is waffling over whether to revoke Lieberman's chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee and may instead hold a secret vote among Democratic members on whether to kick Lieberman out of the caucus.
Senate aides from both parties caution that Lieberman's state is still truly up in the air and Reid could still craft a scenario where Lieberman keeps his chairmanship.

He's not an independent so much as someone who just wants to stay on the "winning" team, whichever one that may be. He just wants to be where the power is. If Republicans had the power, he'd be groveling at their feet instead of Reid's. He has no core principles to guide him. He's a joke and Connecticut would do well to boot his butt.

Ok, I'm a cynical bastard. But there's a good reason for that. I've seen every kind of con job on earth and know one when I see it. This is a more critical test than just the disposition of one punk traitor. It will define the Democratic party and if they have any guts or sense of duty and honor at all, which at this point in time is an unknown factor. It's put up or shut up time for the "New Democrats" and it's too early to say, but all is not cherry blosoms and rainbows in the indications I see and hear. Hey, give me a break, somebody's gotta be the sober sceptic till people come down from their WE WON!! high and take stock of what's what. So far nothing has changed except which party has the juice and despite however you manage to twist the facts, there is a whole lot less evidence that much will change. I do still have a spark of hope because giving anymore would be foolish and unearned by our 'leaders' as of now. And it's a long while between now and Jan. 20. You can put a bullet in a sharks head, cut it off and it can still bite you bad.
