Strongly worded letter coming soon.

House panel votes to cite Rove for contempt

A House panel Wednesday voted to cite former top White House aide Karl Rove for contempt of Congress as its Senate counterpart publicly pursued possible punishments for an array of alleged past and present Bush administration misdeeds.

Voting along party lines, the House Judiciary Committee said that Rove had broke the law by failing to appear at a July 10 hearing on allegations of White House influence over the Justice Department, including whether Rove encouraged prosecutions against Democrats.

The committee decision is only a recommendation, and it was unclear whether Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., would allow a final vote. Rove has denied any involvement with Justice decisions, and the White House has said Congress has no authority to compel testimony from current and former advisers.

The vote occurred as members of the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on allegations of administration wrongdoing ranging from discriminating against liberals at Justice to ignoring subpoenas and lying to Congress.

Will someone arrest this azzhole?

And that letter will "condemn in the strongest possible terms" Rove's snubbing of the law and the constitution.

It will not, however, be meant as any sort of indicia, legal or otherwise, that the Committee intends to press Rove with inherent contempt, by which the House could hold Rove in actual custody until he purges himself of his contempt.

Oh, no. That wouldn't be sporting now, would it? That wouldn't be cricket a't'all. T'wouldn't be according to the Marquis of Queensbury Rules.

Heave forfend!

I GET SO TIRED OF SAYING "TAKE TO THE STREETS." This shows once again that it is all about maintaining the status quo. Pelosi is another Lieberman because she has become open about her job as the protecter of all pols no matter the level of scum they belong to. I plan to vote Nader and hope for the best. I don't see any other way to rid our political landscape of all the entrenched trash. I have never voted anything but Democrat(Carter was my first Pres.vote). I have never supported nor would I have entertained the possibility until this year, of supporting anyone but a Democrat. It has become crystal clear that repubs and democrats are in collusion. How else could Bush still be in office with a democratiic majority in congress? Obviously it has become the elite industry owned pols against the average, people. The people who go hungry, pay $4.00 gallon gas to their masters, have no healthcare and are screwed daily by the "market powers" because we have virtually unrestricted capitalism. We as a country are almost exactly in the same condition that we were told the USSR was like during the "cold war." Really the only answer to our problems is to take to the streets and take our country back.We won't. We'll go quietly into that brave night while people like Rove and Pelosi rape us of our freedoms and control our country. Vote Nader, lets try a third party. He has a solid progressive resume and the MSM ignore him. Pretty strong. If he wins he's not a "spoiler." I truly believe that a vote for repub or democrat is no different. Only the "window dressing" will change.

Your best post ever md, really. You're 100% right in your conclusions. The problem is the American people themselves. And if history is any guide things don't look too promising. Empires in decline rarely ignite those who ultimately depend on the plunders of empire as much as the king and his minions. In 1976 this country was already deeply in need of the Constitutional Convention suggested by those guys everybody loves to love, the Founders. If only they obeyed. I was but a lad but I remember a couple of articles in the paper about the havoc and chaos and collapse of life as we know it a convention would cause. Yawn...that was the response from reading these old news archives. And the populace is much much worse today. In the 70's people WERE fighting in the streets, often but not always for the wrong reason but they did have effect. 250,000+ people in Washington DC and they had the white house surrounded nose to tail with city busses and after stoning out all the windows the crowds tried to tip them over into the fence. APCs in the streets couldn't move because of the carpet of people from sidewalk to sidewalk. Teargas for all but god damn people were pissed and had they wanted they could have overwhelmed the defenders, but blood wasn't the message and that's the only reason that "war" was stopped. People just went bonkers mad. And I don't see that happening with the training bred into people today. Big Brother is accepted as just another fact of life and I still have MY job, so what's to make waves about. You never disobey Big Brother and he always defends you well and wisely. A well medicated, from childhood now, compliant bunch of serfs, it's what power ultimately seeks. And most of the powers they exercise, yes most of them, are forbidden by the Constitution. Somewhere in the writings of one of the good ole founders is a statement that says something like 'the Constitution is like a chain around your legs but can be changed, by amendment' or close to that. Todays government rules by fiat and judicial fancy. I'm the sometimes pretty silly guy's been commenting to your comments lately and the book I recommended, The Real Lincoln, if you like to read try to find it. It's a one stop shopping deal on exactly how we got from there to here. You're absolutely right about everything.

This means you've all bought the "elitist" crap that Hillary and McCain have been spewing, apparently. If you look at today's story about a federal judge FINALLY stating that White House aides are not above the law, you'll see progress is being slowly made. One of the largest hurdles in this whole mess is the fact that most judges are Bush appointees and are going to say whatever Bush/Mukasey tell them to say - which means protecting these people. You can't enforce a law that the federal judges themselves won't enforce. Congress makes laws, they aren't a police force. They need assistance from other parts of government in order to succeed. Do I think they've done everything in their power? No. But they're not ignoring it, either.

Oh, but shame on Obama because he hasn't already fixed Washington just the way you want it! Never mind that he's still a first term Senator, not President. (Name a first term Senator from the modern era who revolutionized Washington. Having trouble?) Who am I to criticize to the point of wanting to wipe them out? I've never worked in Congress and have no idea how difficult it is just to get simple procedural motions passed. Do you? What you're visualizing is a political Utopia. But any politician who tries to operate in that type of environment while completely ignoring the facts of the "game", is destined to fail. Any kind of radical talk will alienate even your allies. It's not like "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington". Really. It isn't. There's a reality that none of us likes, but it's still there and has to be dealt with. It's like ignoring a broken bridge support simply because you think it shouldn't be broken.

Jenna, do you work for a Pacification Dept. we've not been told about? Since nearly 10% of our humungous military budget is now "black" there's probably all sorts of stuff we're not being told and I just wondered. Thing is Jenna, we're running out of time. When we now sit in a position where the last big bunch of Commies (something like 20% of the population of the planet) can bring the late great U.S. of A to her knees in a week, just by showing up with the, I believe trillions of dollars in I.O.U.s and demand payment, well were screwed. China isn't like a bunch of old and disabled folks you can shoo away like flies when they come knocking for their share of the horribly named Social Security Trust Fund. They won't take either parties explanation that "Hey, so we fucked up and we're broke, get in line suckers". And the cooking of the books grows more frantic exponentially, regardless your optimism and we're just as screwed as Wylie Coyote running in place after he's already run over the cliff. A little less talk and a lot more action, I think that's how some country song I heard put it. It's sooo tiring when all their talk is based on lies. U.S. banks are probably the unsafest place in the world to put your money, not that Americans save any but Mexican banks are far more secure than your local brand of Big Bank. If you think we can all run for city council, keep electing DLC centered so called "Democrats" and work our way out of this hole, lots of people think you're just continuing to dig. I think our beloved Founders gave us too much credit if they thought we were strong enough to stick to the Constitution they wrote us. It lasted all of 70 or so years and we haven't even looked back at the path we've taken since. As long as citizen Xs favorite 'program' gets funded then all is well with the world. I only wish it were as simple as that.
