Bush says if younger, he would work in Afghanistan
U.S. President George W. Bush got an earful on Thursday about problems and progress in Afghanistan where a war has dragged on for more than six years but been largely eclipsed by Iraq.
"I must say, I'm a little envious," Bush said. "If I were slightly younger and not employed here, I think it would be a fantastic experience to be on the front lines of helping this young democracy succeed."
"It must be exciting for you ... in some ways romantic, in some ways, you know, confronting danger. You're really making history, and thanks," Bush said.

This story is actually pretty insightful. It highlights just how little he understands the concept of war and the mission in Afghanistan. To him, it's a movie, like "Gunga Din".
Then there's this: "The Afghan mission is the toughest ground war faced by the 59-year-old alliance [NATO] and has led to open differences among allies over tactics and troop levels." The last thing we need is to develop a bad relationship with NATO, yet it sounds as if we have done exactly that.
And this: ""You're looking beautiful but you're not sounding too good," said Bush, who was in charge of the remote control, increasing and lowering the volume at will." The man spent more time playing with his "toys" than listening to what was being said. Why? Because it doesn't matter what they say.
And perhaps most strikingly: "Bush was told that if local governments can provide for their people, they will respond by breaking away from tribal law and the Taliban. One of the American participants in Kabul said there was a saying in Ghazni: "Taliban begins where the paved road ends." " This is such an important truth and he will never understand it. People who are disenfranchised are more easily drawn into organizations like the Taliban as a way to find what they're lacking. Street gangs work on the same concept. Until you recognize the underlying problems and fix them, you cannot keep peace with terrorists or with gang members.

The Russians got their clocks cleaned in Afghanistan. What made them think that we could succeed there.

After hearing that monlogue, there is no doubt in my mind that george is certfiably insane. What happened when his draft number came up? He just wasn't in the mood for romance? So he called daddy and had him find a place in the Texas national guard? I don't know, in the national guard he could prety much guarantee that some poor guy would die in his place... I'll bet that was kind of sexy and romantic to George. I'd bet he still gets a woody when he thinks about it...just like when he raped that black chick. Sociopaths just have a little different idea of romantic than normal people. remember that movie "American Beauty." Huey lewis and the news..
