Now THIS is how you support the troops

A couple of South Carolina Democrats are talking about a simple, inexpensive, common sense way to show that they support our troops. Buy them a beer. Or at least allow them to buy their own.COLUMBIA, S.C. - A state lawmaker wants to give members of the armed forces younger than 21 the right to buy alcohol even though it's in stark contrast to the military's efforts to diminish underage drinking and related accidents.
"I really don't think it should create a problem for the military. It might even enhance their morale," Rep. Fletcher Smith said Wednesday.
"It's absurd that people serving in the military are trained to kill on the battlefield but at the same time couldn't come back home and have a beer," the Greenville Democrat said. "If you're old enough to get training in the U.S. military, you should be old enough to get a beer. That training really matures a person."
"If a man is old enough to defend his country and die for his country," he shouldn't be told he's too young for a beer, said Rep. Grady Brown, D-Bishopville. This is an idea we at dubyaD40 can really get behind, and have been advocating for years. These men and women out their risking their asses to defend us. Whether you (or they) agree with the conflict that the government sent them to fight or not, they go out and are willing to take a bullet to do thier duty and serve their country. What right do we have to tell them they're not "adult" enough to have a beer?
Cheers!

How refreshing (kinda like an ice cold brewski, huh?) it is to see a good idea coming out of a place like South Carolina! Good on 'em!
Meanwhile, from the Hopeless Paranoia Department, wanna guess why the Pentagon is trying to dry up the troops? C'mon, I dare ya!
Could it be that, as Mikey Weinstein of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation has pointed out time after time after time, that the Pentagon is deep in the throes of wild-eyed, full-bore, damn-the-torpedoes-full-speed-ahead evangelical religious insanity?
After all, if you can keep the "boys" and "girls" from having a drink, the Right Wing Religion Industry's kool-aid looks a helluva lot more refreshing.
Just sayin'. . .

Since beer is such an important issue, and you guys claim to have some expertise in that area, please explain to this non drinker just how they are "defending" me and also how they are 'serving' the country. From my non addled brain they seem more like well equipped, though slightly incompetent terrorists. They could use better designed uniforms though. Try walking around a desert with all that shit they have on. The fact that the 'troops' are just fodder and the 'leaders' of our killing machine prefer to spend most of the money on fancy planes, boats and assorted corporate produced "equipment" doesn't seem to bother even those that scream "I'm a LIBERAL!" If we really worship the Constitution this is not a power the Federal govt. is even supposed to have. I also wonder if at our 1000 plus oversea bases beer drinking is decided by the Empire govt. in Washington. "We" have no right according to the non existant Constitution they have you snowed into believing still exists to make such decisions. But since we even let the Federal Govt. mandate the number of dimples a fucking golf ball has without a peep of protest, why not beer drinking? We gave them an inch and they took the whole tape and shoved it up our asses, so stop complaining.
