Big Brother can't handle dissent posted by Clyde 7:40 AM Here come the thought police With overwhelming bipartisan support, Rep. Jane Harman's "Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act" passed the House 404-6 late last month and now rests in Sen. Joe Lieberman's Homeland Security Committee. Swift Senate passage appears certain. Not since the "Patriot Act" of 2001 has any bill so threatened our constitutionally guaranteed rights. The historian Henry Steele Commager, denouncing President John Adams' suppression of free speech in the 1790s, argued that the Bill of Rights was not written to protect government from dissenters but to provide a legal means for citizens to oppose a government they didn't trust. Thomas Jefferson's Declaration of Independence not only proclaimed the right to dissent but declared it a people's duty, under certain conditions, to alter or abolish their government. In that vein, diverse groups vigorously oppose Ms. Harman's effort to stifle dissent. Unfortunately, the mainstream press and leading presidential candidates remain silent. Their corporate owned bosses did not want them to and they didn't. Have they ever shown you how the regular people in other industrialized countries get 5-8 weeks a year of 100% paid vacation? Have they told that our healthcare is ranked just above that of Slovenia, yet we pay more than any country in the world for it? Have fun being suckers and cannon fodder. I'll do whatever it takes to get to a DEMOCRATIC NATION that knows that socialization is a good word,where the Government is afraid of the people instead of the people being afraid of the government and that when 90% of the money is owned by 1% of the population, that is a bad thing. What has happened to the Americans? They used to be among the worlds best informed and most willing to fight tyranny, but since the Reagan repeal of the "FAIRNESS DOCTRINE" they have become poor, stupid hateful individuals that don't even care. 	Mike, You're right, I was forced to do exactly what you're considering and picked Costa Rica, a poor third world country that provides me with free health care, let the schools out so that kids could go to the airport and watch as the last two presidents were brought home from retirement handcuffed in coach class to face charges for the corruption of their administrations. They abolished the army here in 1948 because it was have a big army or provide schools that actually teach and universal health care, and they made the right choice because otherwise the citizens would shut the country down, which they do frequently. Half the laws the jerks in the legislature pass are overturned within 24 hours by the Supreme Court, so there aren't all that many laws as a result. We can camp on the Presidents lawn and all the police do is put up trash cans and ask us to be quiet after 10PM so the man can sleep. People will walk 20 miles to vote and not complain. Most 12 year olds could outthink a lot of first year "university" students in Dumbfuckistan, and they probably know more about the U.S. government than 98% of the so called 'citizens' up there in dreamland. No, it's not paradise here, but it is a free country and if the government ever got out of hand there's enough military weapons in the hands of civilians that they'd never get away with it, or even consider it. The U.S. is finished, it's only the poor saps that still want to believe the bullshit your fed so badly that they refuse to face the obvious facts that leave the rest of the world scratching their heads wondering "what the fucks wrong with those fools?" Again, it's a long way from perfect here, but at least people know what's going on, unlike the 'through the looking glass' thought processes of the dreamers, fools and suckers that compose both wings of your single party State. 	Thanks Killer, I am going somewhere and I imagine the weather is pretty good there also. I've got to figure out how to get out of Amerika while I still owe back child support from the days when I was still physically able to work. I have a medical history that would make most anyone cry (not a neo-con unless it was him) but two years later, not a penny of the social security I paid in. 	M. Doty, Actually there are lots of jobs for English teachers, both in the public schools and the many private language schools. You have to speak at least passable Spanish to get by here, but hey, it's a Spanish speaking country. Lots of North Americans down here, both in business and a large retirement community. Outstanding surf, average temp. year round of 72 degrees. One coast on the Caribbean the other on the Pacific and lots of volcanos and assorted rain forests (there's actually about 5 different kinds) American landmines are still blowing up the occasional unlucky bastard on the North border (leftover Contra shit). And a real culture shock for most Gringos. I'd say about half make it and the other half run back to Dumbfuckistan. But a longer life span, lower child mortality and medication I need that cost me near $700 a month in the States I get for five bucks (that's only because I'm a rich Gringo). It's not for everyone, but there's tons of Italians, Germans, North Americans and assorted Europeans. And you can bank in Euros! This third world banana republic just devalued the fucking dollar which shocked the shit out of the Gringo expats, but the Canadians are laughing because for the first time in my memory their money is worth more than the U.S. dollar. Wowee Zowee. What more can I say? It's not for everyone but I like it. But it is a free country and you can't possibly realize just how un-free the U.S. has become until you experience it for yourself. 	It's really sad that so little is being said about this Act - it's terrifying. I'm embarrassed that it was written by a Democrat. Doesn't anyone in Congress have scruples anymore? People aren't protesting it because you have to actively search out the information in order to know about it and most people don't have that kind of time to dedicate to researching news. That's supposed to be the media's job. But mainstream media ignores this kind of thing in favor of Britney's ongoing feud with Paris. It will only get worse as media ownership rules are loosened even further. ClearChannel and Rupert Murdoch will eventually own every media outlet, ensuring that we will never know what's happening in our own country. Internet access will be limited (like China) so we won't be able to get information from the UK (often the only source for items like this). 	Sorry Anon, you're right, but the man asked for some info and this was the only place to give it to him. But as far as the act goes...what's to say? What Democratic party? I've been saying that for years now and no one wants to admit that Lieberman is a perfect example of todays 'Democrat'. We all despise the Neos and convientely look the other way at the betrayal and rot in the party the dreamers STILL think represents them. Their eyes are wide shut and they don't want to face the facts. I almost hope Hillbillary wins the nomination because the Democratic party will see a mass defection from within it's own ranks. They must know it, all the polls they live by tell them so, but they are not any longer 'reality based'. If Hillbillary runs maybe half the registered Dems. will vote elsewhere and maybe then and only then the Republicrats that pass as 'liberals' (only to a closed audience) will remember who they are supposed to be representing instead of fucking. Once again, the Clintons, Lieberman and the Gores et al, destroyed the Democratic party the deniers still think exists. To quote the other so called "great" President Clinton, "We can't be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary Americans ...". Sound like a liberal Democrat to you? Me neither. But there seems no end to the pathetic loyalty some people are still willing to give this bunch of assholes. Until they wake up the Democratic party no longer exists. Vote for someone that earns your vote and there's not a Dem out there that has. Read your ballot, there's 5 or 6 candidates to choose from.
